Light in the City
This book was born out of burden and vision. I am burdened by the brokenness I witness in urban communities, where children, despite their brilliance and talent, are often overlooked. Where test scores are tracked, but tears are ignored. Where kids can memorize TikTok dances but have never heard the words, “You were fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Imagine the potential outcomes if Christian education refocused on its true purpose. The goal should not only be to impart knowledge about God, but to engage in a collaborative learning process with Him. The goal should not only be to construct schools, but also to cultivate individuals. We aim to cultivate the next generation of Daniels, Esthers, Pauls, and Priscillas, not in the distant future, but in the present moment.
I have authored this book as both a challenge and a charge.
I dedicate this book to the parents who, despite their fatigue, continue to pray.
I dedicate this book to educators who often feel as though they are planting seeds in concrete.
To the pastors who ponder whether their pulpit could encompass a school desk, I extend my heartfelt prayers.
To the students who have been told they will never make it, I say: God is not done with you.
This is more than a book. It is a blueprint. This is a call to action. It asserts the necessity of Christian education. It is missional. It is urgent. And it is possible even in the hardest places. So, if you have ever wondered whether a classroom can become a place of revival, I invite you to read on.
Let us rebuild the future—one child, one lesson, one prayer at a time.
Community, Where Great Teachers Can Flourish
“Community, Where Great Teachers Can Flourish” is a novel series based upon “Dean Lion's Class: Helping Hearts and Minds Series.” This is a heartwarming children's story about Dean Lion, a 5th-grade teacher at Shalom Christian Academy, an urban school. The story follows Mr. Lion as he navigates the challenges of teaching students who face significant personal and family struggles while maintaining high academic standards and Christian values. The main characters include Cody, Zoe, Marcus, Tiana, DeShawn, Shaylah, and others, who face various challenges, such as financial hardship, conflicting expectations, and social expectations.
What if the classroom became a catalyst for revival?
In cities where classrooms are overcrowded and communities feel overlooked, Christian education offers something radical: hope with a backbone. In Light in the City, educator and visionary Dr. Kyle Gray reveals how faith-filled schools can spark transformation in even the most challenged neighborhoods.
With real stories, powerful Scripture, and practical insights, this book explores:
Why character matters more than curriculum
How Christian schools can become mission hubs
What it takes to raise godly leaders in broken places
Why urban students are not a problem—they are the plan
Whether you are a parent, pastor, teacher, or community leader, this book is your call to build, believe, and boldly invest in the next generation. Because the light of Christ does not run from darkness—it shines right in the middle of it.
Act Like a Christian, Think Like God
Let’s be honest: it’s easy to act like a Christian. Smile at church. Say “God bless you.” Post a Bible verse now and then. But what if God’s calling us to more than just acting the part?
This book is for the person who’s tired of playing church and ready to let God rewire their mindset. Act Like a Christian, Think Like God is a down-to-earth, honest look at how real transformation does not start with better behavior, it starts with thinking more like Jesus.
We’ll walk through what it really means to have the “mind of Christ,” how to unlearn toxic thoughts, and how to bring God’s perspective into everyday life—relationships, work, decisions, and everything in between.
